Seven years ago yesterday, a blowout at an ultra-deepwater well operated by British oil giant BP in the Gulf of Mexico caused an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon offshore drilling rig and ultimately led to 134 million gallons of oil spewing into the Gulf.

On Jan. 24, President Trump signed an executive order making it easier for both the Keystone XL and the DAPL to go forward.

“You could just smell this oil smell. A customer walks in and says ‘nobody smoke.’ You could see it just spewing.”

The ruling is at odds with a decision at the Hague in 2015.

The county where this spill took place has experienced 19 reported spills in 2016, 12 of those incidents were BP.

Cleanup of this spill may last until spring.

Gulf residents opposed to drilling are calling on President Obama not to open additional leases in the next Five Year Plan for the Gulf of Mexico.

The new report of how many gallons of oil were spilled show that initial results underestimated the leak - by 9,000%.

Compared to the destruction and harm BP caused in the 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion, their settlement is very minimal, but at least they will have to pay for this spill. Let’s hope the government sticks to their guns and makes sure this settlement is passed.
