Let’s be clear on one thing: There is no Wall. There never has been a serious plan to build a Wall. And there never will be a Wall.

This Trump-created crisis and the standoff that ensued give us an early indication of how little the Democratic Party as a whole has changed.

The American Federation of Government Employees, or AFGE, says it’s illegal for federal workers to be forced to work without pay.

"We're afraid that we're going to start seeing significant damage to the natural resources in parks and potentially to historic and other cultural artifacts. We're concerned there'll be impacts to visitors' safety. It's really a nightmare scenario."

“As if missed paychecks and working without pay were not enough, now they have been told that they don’t even deserve a modest pay increase.”

"What if we instead added $5.7 billion in teacher pay? Or replacing water pipes? Or college tuition/prescription refill subsidies? Or green jobs?"

The Office of Personnel Management said furloughed government employees could do "painting," "carpentry," or other odd jobs "in exchange for partial rent payments."

"My husband is furloughed due to the Trump shutdown. This is a very stressful time, and believe me, my husband does not want that wall."

“Have some integrity,” she added, calling for salaries to be furloughed for the next shutdown.
