Before he leaves office, Obama should set up a truth commission on the Iraq War.

"Wars rarely turn out the way the experts tell us they will. Just ask the officials who provided rosy scenarios for the wars in Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq."

Or is he the third?

The sudden all-consuming focus on Afghanistan is distracting us from hugely important stuff that’s coming to a head at home.

"Someday in the distant future, I hope you’ll read this letter and that, given the ingenuity of our species, given the grit to resist madness, given whatever surprises the future holds, you’ll smile indulgently at my worst fears."

We urgently need a progressive politics that extends solidarity with the victims of military violence—no matter which state perpetrates it—and resists the militarism of our own governments.

Amerikans need to begin acting like Americans again, and say NO to empire and YES to saving our towns, cities and states from the predators who now run things.
