A campaign launched in the wake of the election is asking President Biden to not seek re-election in 2024. The Don’t Run Joe campaign, sponsored by RootsAction.org—an activist group— launched in New Hampshire, the state that hosts the first-in-the-nation primary for presidential hopefuls, on Wednesday.
The Don’t Run Joe campaign is asking that Biden doesn’t seek reelection in 2024. “With so much at stake,” renominating him “would be a tragic mistake,” according to a press release from RootsAction.org.
“While I appreciate the many good things that Biden has proposed—specifically, student debt relief and the American Rescue Plan—I am not confident that Joe Biden is the leader we need to take us into the next term,” Sherry Frost, New Hampshire Democratic State Representative, said.
The message reached Democrats in New Hampshire via digital ads with the bullet points:
· “We cannot risk losing in 2024. We shouldn’t gamble on Joe Biden’s low approval rating.”
· “Now is not the time for weak measures! We need solid leadership to keep Republicans out of the White House in 2024.”
· “We need strong leadership to defeat Republicans in 2024. #DontRunJoe. Give Democrats a fighting chance.”
The Don’t Run Joe campaign said Biden has been “neither bold nor inspiring” and his “moderate policies have failed to truly address such pressing concerns as the climate emergency, voting rights, student debt, health care, corporate price-gouging, and bloated military spending in tandem with anemic diplomacy.” With the possibility of Republicans taking over in 2024, Biden’s “prospects for winning re-election appear to be bleak,” #DontRunJoe added.
“A president is not his party’s king, and he has no automatic right to renomination. Joe Biden should not seek it. If he does, he will have a fight on his hands.”
