The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) recently released police body cam footage after an officer fired his Taser at a man holding a sword. The department confirmed that the incident remains under investigation due to the officer’s use of force.

On October 12, LAPD officers responded to a call concerning a half-naked man brandishing a sword. After the officers arrived at the scene, they repeatedly ordered the suspect to place the sword on the ground.

Instead of complying with their orders, the suspect was recorded on police body cam video standing in the middle of an intersection while posing with the sword. Although the suspect did not appear to attack the officers, one of the unidentified cops fired his Taser at the suspect, who immediately fell to the ground.

After the suspect collapsed, the officers easily disarmed him before cuffing his hands behind his back. The department has not released any information concerning whether the sword was real or just a replica.

The man was taken to a hospital for a mental health inspection and was not charged with any crimes.
