Be black, be brave

Let’s return to that idea: we shall arm the militia, and no one else. The Militia shall be comprised of all races and sexes. No one – not even the police – shall have guns.

Many more black males are shot with guns proportionally than are white males.  The police shoot many more black males with guns than they shoot white males.  And there are more guns in America per population than there are in any other country, save one.

So if you were black, why would you support the Second Amendment?  The Second Amendment isn’t your friend.  It helps to make you a target.  Yet PushBlack has taken a strong position, demanding that blacks be allowed and not blocked from owning guns.  And their members own guns.  They have done a podcast: “Is There Black Power In A Loaded Gun?”  Yes, there is power, but there is also danger.  If a cop thinks you’ve got a gun, that may be a sure signal that you’ll be shot.

If you want power, then march in the streets (with the whites, Asians, Latinos) and demand that the police stop using guns on innocent people.  Remember, a long time ago, police did not have guns.  They had billy clubs, and that was plenty to protect them.  And because they didn’t have guns, criminals didn’t have guns.

Most police in Britain still don’t carry guns.  “Last year — when Brits watched terrorists strike FranceGermany, and Belgium — London’s police chief warned it was a case of “when, not if” the U.K. joined that list.

And yet more than 90 percent of the capital’s police officers carry out their daily duties without a gun. Most rely on other tools to keep their city safe: canisters of mace, handcuffs, batons and occasionally stun-guns.

This is no accident.

The Metropolitan Police, which covers most of London, was founded in 1829 on the principle of “policing by consent” rather than by force.

Giving everyday police officers guns sends the wrong message to communities, so this thinking goes, and can actually cause more problems than it solves.

Of course, it’s easier for police to remain unarmed if civilians do the same. Out of every 100 people in Britain, fewer than four of them own a firearm, according to GunPolicy.org, a project run by Australia’s University of Sydney. In the U.S. there is more than one gun per person.”

The British say that they don’t want a police state.  So they stay with the practice of leaving the police mostly without gun, except in exceptional situations.  And the citizens don’t carry guns.  Why isn’t PushBlack pushing for a change to a system where there are no guns?

I watched a live-stream program by PSL (“Party for Socialism and Liberation”).  They criticized the white liberals for backing voting rights rather than marching in the streets, saying that voting is rife with corruption and keeps blacks from having any power.  This is true.  But you cannot really have a peaceful society with everyone armed to the teeth and rebelling in a split second.  We need to use the rebellion caused by George Floyd’s to move towards peace and justice.  We need to consider the idea of disarming our people, even if it takes a constitutional amendment.  And we need PushBlack to support that movement.

The original idea of the Second Amendment was that “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”  Let’s return to that idea: we shall arm the militia, and no one else.  The Militia shall be comprised of all races and sexes.  No one – not even the police – shall have guns.  Those who illegally possess guns shall be sent to prison for ten years, no questions asked.  People shall be rewarded for ratting out those who carry guns.  Let us have peace, justice for all, and no guns.  As unlikely as it is in America, these must be our goals.
