Currently 15 House Democrats have signed the Green New Deal resolution – a plan introduced by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY) – that would completely transform the economy and address the climate crisis the world faces.
The latest federal climate report confirmed that “climate change is affecting the natural environment, agriculture, energy production and use, land and water resources, transportation, and human health and welfare across the U.S. and its territories” and if we don’t act fast it’s going to wreak havoc on the economy. The Green New Deal is the answer to the climate crisis. Not only will it fight climate change, the resolution also includes a federal jobs guarantee, universal health care, universal basic income and move the economy away from fossil fuel and towards clean energy.
In order to make this resolution a reality, Congress needs to create a select committee to implement these bold climate measures. It’s time to pressure House Democrats to support the Green New Deal so it’s on the agenda now that Democrats are in control.
Tell Democratic lawmakers to stand up for a sustainable future and convince Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to authorize the select committee. The Green New Deal is our only solution to stop the climate crisis.
