"What if we instead added $5.7 billion in teacher pay? Or replacing water pipes? Or college tuition/prescription refill subsidies? Or green jobs?"

What would most Americans rather the $5 billion Donald Trump is demanding to build a border wall be spent on? Education, healthcare, green jobs and climate change to name a few.

In a recent poll conducted by the Business Insider published on Thursday, 81 percent of respondents said the $5 billion would be better spent on other priorities than the border wall.

“What if we instead added $5.7 billion in teacher pay? Or replacing water pipes? Or college tuition/prescription refill subsidies? Or green jobs?,” Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.

And the polls shows that majority of Americans agree with Ocasio-Cortez and disagree with the current priorities of the Trump administration. Thirty-six percent of those polled said the $5 billion should be spent on healthcare, while 30 percent want the funds to go toward infrastructure, Common Dreams reported.

Jeff Stein from the Washington Post said that the $5.7 billion that some House Republicans want to give Trump to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border could “cover 852,017 uninsured Americans” or “fund universal pre-K.”

As the government shutdown continues with no end in sight, Trump has no intention of backing down from his demand for funding for the wall in various tweets.
