According to research, burning fossil fuels releases harmful particles into the air that is threatening the Earth, animals and humans. This pollution is responsible for premature deaths, sickness and destruction.

Moving to clean energy and away from fossil fuels, like coal, can save thousands of lives in the U.S., and save us billions of dollars.

According to Nature Energy, the use of wind and solar energy helped prevent up to 12,700 premature deaths over the course of an 8-year period.

The study researched health and environmental benefits of wind and solar energy between 2007 and 2015. They monitored how wind and solar energy reduce combustion-based electricity generation and provide air-quality and greenhouse gas emission benefits.

What about the cost of switching to clean energy? Well, clean energy saves more than lives. Between 2007 and 2015, the study found “cumulative wind and solar air-quality benefits of 2015 US$29.7–112.8 billion … and cumulative climate benefits of 2015 US$5. 3–106.8 billion.”

The U.S. needs to continue to invest in sustainable energy and needs to leave fossil-fueled energy behind. It’s time to fight for environmental, animal and human health.
