Senator Bernie Sanders is holding nothing back when it comes to voicing his opinion of President Trump’s proposed federal budget.
On Monday, Sanders tweeted, “Far from compassionate, Trump’s budget – if enacted – would be one of the cruelest in American history. It must be defeated.”

The budget could cut as much as $1 billion from Head Start, meaning some 95,000 children will be thrown out of early education & child care.

Sanders also states that the budget is a disaster for education. It could destroy the Head Start program, ruining many children’s chances for early education and childcare. It also would slash important higher learning grants such as Pell Grants.

His plan puts college more out of reach for her children by slashing Pell Grants and eliminating Supplemental Education Opportunity Grants.

Sanders broke down what Trump’s budget would be for a single mother living in Detroit:
Mick Mulvaney, Trump’s budget director, claimed draconian cuts in Trump’s budget are “compassionate” for a single mother in Detroit. https://t.co/3isKEGKsdA

Let’s look at what Trump’s “compassion” actually means for that mother, her two children and millions of other working-class Americans.

“Compassion” from Trump for this single mother means $6.2 billion in cuts to affordable housing, which could force her out of her apartment.

Trump’s 31% cut to the EPA means this woman’s children would likely be breathing dirtier air and drinking contaminated water.

If an eviction notice arrives, she won’t have a lawyer because this “compassionate” budget would eliminate the Legal Services Corporation.

President Trump’s budget, which was released earlier this month, calls for a dramatic decrease in the size of the government. In addition to cuts to education and the EPA, it also calls for the elimination of many important federal programs that benefit the poor, the slashing of the size of the federal workforce, and severe limitations on funding climate change research and science.
Sanders isn’t stopping at just the budget, though. After the major victory against the Republican’s American Health Care Act, the Vermont Senator is pushing forward with his idea for single-payer health care. As he said, “This is not the end of our work. It is the beginning.”
We must be clear. This important victory against the Republican health care plan is not the end of our work. It is the beginning.
