Federal Judge Sam Sparks issued an injunction disallowing Texas to defund Planned Parenthood and stated they are not allowed to withhold Medicaid money from the medical provider.

“Such action would deprive Medicaid patients of their statutory right to obtain health care from their chosen qualified provider,” wrote the judge.

The threatened funding cuts would affect over 12,000 Medicaid patients across Texas.

Back in December, the state cut off Medicaid funds to some Planned Parenthood groups after authorities accused the organization of selling fetal body parts. This state, along with several other Republican-controlled states, has continuously pushed to cut the organization’s funding.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton claims he will appeal the ruling, saying: “Today’s decision is disappointing and flies in the face of basic human decency.”
