Sean Spicer, Trump’s press secretary, has refused to accept that Trump’s inauguration turnout was lower than expected.

“This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration. Period,” Spicer said. “Both in person and around the globe.”

Aerial photos of the event show a lot of open space, but Spicer believes photos were “intentionally framed” in a way to downplay the crowd-size. He also blames floor coverings for a lot of the open space saying: “This is the first time in our nation’s history that floor coverings have been used to protect the grass on the Mall, which had the effect of highlighting areas people were not standing whereas in years past the grass eliminated this visual.”
