In response to a racist Fox News segment on that recently aired on “The O’Reilly Factor” this week, “The Daily Show” delivered a hilariously brutal critique of the 24-hour news network’s lack of journalistic integrity and incessant failure to support women’s rights. Instead of sending a correspondent to mock the residents of New York’s Chinatown district, the satire comedy show that derides mainstream journalism obtained interviews with several politically savvy Chinatown residents who did not appreciate O’Reilly’s depiction of racist Asian stereotypes.
Earlier this week, Jesse Watters from “The O’Reilly Factor” appeared in a segment where he visited Chinatown in New York City and interviewed many people who did not seem to speak English. Bill O’Reilly apparently sent Watters to Chinatown because GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump referenced China in a negative way multiple times during the debate.
“They say ‘China’ in the debate, so you go to Chinatown? In New York?” asked Ronny Chieng from “The Daily Show” on Thursday. “So when they mention Mexico, you send someone to Taco Bell? Chinatown is nothing like China! They got nothing to do with each other. That’s like if they brought up women’s rights, so I decided to go over to Fox News to get some opinions.”
Watters opened his segment by asking if he should bow before speaking then asked a local vendor if he was selling stolen watches. While receiving a foot massage and acting like a fool in a Tae Kwon Do studio, Watters asked an elderly man who did not appear to speak English, “Is it the year of the dragon? Rabbit?”
“No, it’s actually the year of ‘Go fuck yourself.’ What the hell was that? How was that on the news? In fact, how was that even on TV?” Chieng asked. “And by the way if you’re going to be racist, at least get your stereotypes right, you ignorant sack of shit! Karate isn’t Chinese, it’s Japanese. And you’re doing it in a Tae Kwon Do studio, which is Korean, you fucking jack off!”
After belittling Watters’ failed attempt at humor or successful attempt at racism, Chieng pointed out that Fox News should have focused on China’s high concentration of pollution or rampant internet censorship if they wanted to mock Chinese people. Chieng also attacked Watters for making fun of elderly people who clearly did not speak English.
“It’s easy to make fun of someone when they can’t respond. Here, I’ll show you,” Chieng addressed Watters. “Hey douche bag, why do you look like a guy who carries around a pack of roofies just in case? And why do you look like you have hookers on speed dial? Oh and follow-up question, is it hard to fit Bill O’Reilly’s entire scrotum in your mouth?”
Instead of sending an incompetent so-called journalist to Chinatown, “The Daily Show” sent a bilingual comedian to obtain honest political views from local Chinatown residents. In a few brief interviews, Chieng blatantly revealed that Watters and his colleagues at “The O’Reilly Factor” possess neither comedic skills nor journalistic integrity.
