Donald Trump, in a series of tweets, attacked Georgia congressman and famed civil rights hero John Lewis for not taking care of his “crime infested” district. This predominantly black district, is far from failing as crime has fallen by 30 percent.

John Lewis has been beaten and arrested for marching for racial justice and voting rights and has served as a U.S. Representative for Georgia’s 5th congressional district since 1987. Many people have jumped in on Lewis’ defense after these remarks from the current president-elect.

“Rep. John Lewis is a hero and I’m lucky to call him a colleague. You sir are not half the man he is,” Brendan Boyle, a Democratic congressman from Pennsylvania, tweeted in response.

Trump has decided to go on this Twitter rant about Lewis after Lewis recently criticized Trump saying, “I think there was a conspiracy on the part of the Russians and others to help him get elected. That’s not right. That’s not fair. That’s not the open democratic process.”
